The Yearbook Experience

Why do we do Yearbooks?

Episode Summary

A fun discussion between current and former students and advisers on why we do the yearbook and why you should too.

Episode Notes

A printed yearbook chronicles the most important moments in a school year, the perspective of everyone involved in the school, and is a keepsake whose value grows more each year. To the people that buy the yearbook, it allows them to physically have something to touch when revisiting the book at the end of the year and in the future. But to the adviser, the editor, and staff, it is more than that. It’s an outlet for creativity, a place for personal growth, college opportunities, lifelong relationships, and more.

In today’s episode, we bring on special guests Stephanie Perluss and Nakomi Hunter from West Covina High School, Avni Sinaga from Rancho Cucamonga High School, David Diablo from El Camino Real Charter High School, and Dana Cuellar from Americas High School, with her yearbook rep Lori Garcia.

I also interview a very special person to me, and lifelong Yerd- Brooke Renna Pang. Brooke fell in love with the yearbook in elementary, continued in middle school, and later became Editor at Beaumont High School. She left behind an award-winning publication and legacy. She now is a Walsworth Yearbook Representative in Northern California.

We discuss the most asked questions from advisers and current staff members to inspire current and prospective yearbook students and Advisers. This year is different and, for some, the most challenging in their lives. The yearbook captures every moment, and it only gets done because of the selfless and unsung heroes that put it all together.
